Real Estate is an interesting business to get into, and offers great money, flexibility, and the power to be your own boss. There are a few items to consider before you decide to move forward.

Getting into Real Estate can be tough, especially for new hires, since there is so much to learn. But, if you are a quick learner and willing to put in the effort, it should offer you an enjoyable and lucrative career! Here at Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties, we pride ourselves on helping new agents from the beginning and will steer you through every aspect of the business, from listing presentations, coaching, training, transaction coordination and marketing, to help ensure a successful career!

So, you want to become a realtor… The first step to licensure is taking a Real Estate course, which can be done either online or in-person. Once you are licensed, you will need to take Continuing Education to keep your license current and you want to stay on top of your game by keeping up to date on the industry! Between checking the market, comparable sales, and checking in with your clients, your daily life will be full of daily education as well.

Having a cash reserve will be crucial since realtors don’t get regular paychecks, and it may take a while to get your bearings in the industry. It can also come in handy during slow periods to pay for living expenses, especially when things aren’t selling, or in a buyer’s market where your commission checks might be smaller than usual. Make no mistake, once you get rolling, there is potential to make 6 figures, but remember, the commission checks are paid randomly throughout the year.

Although realtors work long hours and irregular days, you do have flexibility to set your own hours to prioritize your activities, family’s schedules, hobbies, and whatever else is important. You may be a morning person, and want to take off evening hours, or vise versa. Flexibility is the name of the game!

The Real Estate Market will never cease to exist. There will always be people wanting to buy or sell, relocate, buy a first home or invest, so the market is constantly changing to fit the market. Come see us at Coldwell Banker to find out details on how to start your new career in real estate!
